Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Flipboard 2 Wikimedia Commons Meghan Markle has officially received her own coat of arms. Less than a week after she and Prince Harry tied the knot, Kensington Palace unveiled the design—and social media is loving all of the symbolism in the new royal coat of arms. According to Kensington Palace, the coat of arms, which was approved by the Queen, features many elements connected to the Duchess of Sussex’s Golden State roots. “The blue background of the shield represents the Pacific Ocean off the California coast, while the two golden rays across the shield are symbolic of the sunshine of The Duchess’s home state. The three quills represent communication and the power of words,” the statement reads. “Beneath the shield on the grass sits a collection of golden poppies, California’s state flower, and wintersweet, which grows at Kensington Palace.” Introducing The Duchess of Sussex’s Coat of Arms. People magazine reports that the design is traditionally given to the father of the bride before the royal wedding, however, the new coat of arms was presented directly to the Duchess of Sussex due to the pre-wedding family drama. It also does not feature her family name. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were married at St. George’s Chapel on Saturday, May 19.
